Seven Card Stud
Seven card stud is a classic poker game, and you can play in hi/lo. Keep in mind when learning the game rules that you receive seven cards to make final five card hand. You do not need to use any of those seven which you are dealt, just whichever five give the ‘highest hand’.
Forced Bet
It is usually played with ‘ante’ that is nearly 1/5th of low-limit of the bet size. Each player must ante-up before hand begins. This bet does not add up to future bets. After the starting deal when each participant has one card showing, individual with lowest card should ‘bring in’, which means they should put half of low-limit of the bet size in pot. In case, two players or more participants share the card which is lowest, one closest to dealer’s left must ‘bring in’. This bet (bring in) counts as one’s first-round bet, so, given that nobody raises, one will not have to put more amount in pot to look at the next card.
Betting Round
Basically, there are 5 betting rounds. In fixed limit 7-card stud, almost all raises and bets must match to either high-limit bet size or low limit, based on what ‘round’ it is. Keep in mind, in 3rd, 4th and 5th rounds, as all the bets placed must be the same as high-limit bet size. For example, if one is playing 3, 6, 7 card poker game, all bets in initial 2 rounds are in the increments of $3, and bets in final 3 rounds are in the boost of $6. The maximum of three raises are permitted for each betting round.
- Third Street: 2 cards are being dealt with face-down to each of the participant, followed by other card which is face-up. The participant with lowest card should bring-in by betting half of low-limit bet. They may select to ‘raise’ by placing bet on full low-limit bet. The game play proceeds around the poker table in clockwise order, with every player selecting raise, call or fold. All raises and bets should be equal to low-limit of the bet size.
- Fourth Street: A 4th card is dealt with the face-up to each player. The participant with highest hands-showing is the ‘first’ to act. They may elect to bet, check or fold. If many participants are tied for highest-hand, the one nearest to dealer’s left side will be the 1st to take action.
- Fifth Street: A 5th card is dealt with the face-up to each participant. The game-play goes on as in previous play, with highest-hand which gets to bet first, excluding now all raises and bets should be equal to high-limit bet size.
- Sixth Street: A 6the card is given face-up to each player. The game-play moves on as in previous play. All raises and bets should be equal to high-limit bet size.
- Seventh Street: A final and seventh card is give face-down to each participant.
In the case that all 8 players remain inside the game at that point, there will not be sufficient cards for every participant to get another one. If this is the case, in place of every participant receiving card face-down, a ‘single card’ is put in the mid of table face-up which every participant can use in building their five card hand.
Have fun in your seven card stud poker play and good luck!
