Outlining the Youngest Main Event WSOP Final Table in Poker History
The field of around 7,319 members started this event, but now only 9 remain in the field. At first glimpse, it seems to be homogenous grouping, 8 of 9 participants are in 20’s. Another interesting fact is that none of these 8 participants have an occupation outside poker. At the final table, there is only one amateur, who is 37 years old in age. Though, as with all groups, many unforgettable storylines and characters come out upon nearer inspection.
Jonathan Duhamel is a confident, cocky and brash, but by looking at the game he has played at final table, it is difficult not to be appealed by Jonathan Duhamel, the chip leader. This young pro from Canada went from forty million chips to sixty six million chips within the duration it got for event to move from ten handed to 9 handed.
Like several other young poker professionals, John Dolan stopped pursuing the college degree to take part in the game. Regardless of objections from family, John Dolan dropped Florida to engage in poker. After working hard for sometime, doing jobs at many restaurants and working as poker dealer, the pro lastly got into the game himself. In the words of Dolan, “I definitely left school too early. I ran really good in the beginning and ran up a decent bankroll, but really had no clue what a downswing consisted of at high stakes. I was not really prepared to drop out”.
Last year, France and England made cameo at final Table of Main Event, courtesy of Antoine Saout and James Akenhead. This year, Filippo Candio, an Italian poker pro is last hope of Europe, and the twenty six years old could not be more thrilled about it. Candio is lucky enough to make it to final table of Main Event after drawing-out against ‘Cheong’ in a huge game play where there were only fifteen players left. However, he has not overlooked that, remaining humble in interview while praising fellow tablemates. He said, “I respect my opponents so much, especially Duhamel”.
Candio further stated that he is planning on getting coach for break to improve the chances that Italy can get its first Main Event bracelet. The young pro has been enjoying holdem since age of twenty one, and for 2 years professionally.
Other players who will be playing in WSOP Main Event Final Table are Soi Nguyen, Jason Senti, Michael Mizrachi, Matthew Jarvis, John Racener, and Joseph Cheong.
